An city planner who helped form the architectural improvement of Abu Dhabi within the Nineteen Sixties and 70s has been honored by constructing a road named after him.
Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed, member of the Abu Dhabi Government Council and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Government Workplace, inaugurated Abdulrahman Makhlouf Road on Sunday.
The road was often known as Al Sof Road and runs adjoining to the Abu Dhabi Municipality Constructing, and was renamed in recognition of the city planner’s function in shaping the capital’s architectural improvement.
Dr Makhlouf, who died on December 14, 2021, on the age of 98, was an city planning advisor for the United Nations earlier than transferring to Abu Dhabi in 1968.
He was appointed director of the Division of City Planning by the UAE’s founding father, Sheikh Zayed.
Dr Makhlouf was additionally a lecturer within the Division of Structure of the UAE College between 1983 and 1985.
In recognition of his contribution to Abu Dhabi’s city and architectural renaissance, he obtained the Abu Dhabi Award in 2010 from Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
Falah Al Ahbabi, Chairman of the Division of Municipalities and Transport, mentioned, “Dr Makhlouf was instrumental within the planning and design of the city surroundings of Abu Dhabi and performed many research into the longer term improvement of town of Abu Dhabi.”
“Renaming Al Noticed Road to honor his title and contribution is a testomony to the legacy he has left behind.”
Dr Makhlouf’s dwelling legacy consists of the Zayed Nationwide Stadium – now Sports activities Metropolis – one of many capital’s most putting architectural designs.
